Transcript of the speech of Prof. SM shashidhar, HOD, E&C Dept, in the
valedictory function of ‘Pramathi’ program, in IT dept of PDIT, Hospet
on 8th Feb 2012.
Today
you are celebrating the valedictory or concluding function of 'Pramathi' Software Learing Program; I would
rather use the word ‘culmination’; the ‘culmination day’, in simple words
‘fruitful day’ of ‘Pramathi’, a new venture cofounded by proactive lecturers and
students of PDIT.
I express my joy,
happiness and pride on this occasion.
Pramathi a Sanskrit
words, means exceptional mind, quick-mind, versatile, out of the box thinking.
Really a very appropriate word you have chosen for your team. It inherently has
a spirit in it. It is packed with the power of our ancient Mantras.
I am happy that I was also part of this venture; I had an opportunity to
spend time with Pramathi team; It was a wonderful team. I use the word proactive
for the team. An employee can be negative (or reactive), passive, active, and proactive. You
know the first two types, negative and passive. An organization can not progress
with these kind of people.
Active people, good, but they just play the game, what is normally expected; But, proactive people go an extra mile. They are change oriented, self initiated, they are the people making things happen, rather than, just waiting for something to happen. They are the engines. They are the leaders. If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. Proactive people are of that kind. They do not just play the game; they change the rules of the game! These students and mentors conducted the course during their vacation and that is how they have changed the rule of the game! Any organisation, institution can progress only through the contributions of proactive people. If you want to see those people they are very much here amidst us. They have formed this Pramathi team. I request the audience to give Pramathi, our appreciation, thr’ a big round of applause.
I feel that this Pramathi should continue its work even
after you pass out of this college. Today in the virtual world, in this global
village, we can keep together, work together easily, though the distance between
us is thousands of miles. 10-15 of us can paint a picture, one sitting at Copenhagen,
one at Masco, one at Berlin,
one at Delhi and
one at PDIT and can draw strokes simultaneously and create a painting. Hence,
like minded and exceptional minded people, like you, should continue this
journey of
experimenting and exploring the joys of technology all through your life.
Steve Jobs in his Stanford University speech, has given a great message -“Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish.” Stay Hungry - Keep looking for improvement, hunger for better life and not content or settle for less. Stay Foolish - Keep learning and don't think that you've attained all knowledge. If you're "hungry" and "foolish," you are willing to learn. So Jobs was telling people always be willing to learn new things. The success of Pramathi team, a research unit, has become a model for all of us to emulate. If every lecturer works like Mr.Koushik and every student like Pramathi members, no doubt our PDIT will become No.1 in the state of Karnataka.
I
thank Pramathi for giving me an opportunity to speak on this occasion. Thanks,
one and all.
